Public Meetings Provide First Look at Plank-Nicholson Bus Rapid Transit System

Baton Rouge, La - May 13, 2022 - The public will get a first look at design plans for the new Bus Rapid Transit system at three upcoming public meetings hosted by Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the MOVEBR Program Management team in partnership with CATS and Build Baton Rouge.

"We're building Louisiana's first bus rapid transit service," said Mayor Broome. "These meetings will give the public an opportunity to learn about the amenities of a BRT system, the route, how it will operate; and even give us suggestions for naming this exciting new service."

The same exhibits and project team members will be available at all meetings, so the public can attend the most convenient one. Meetings will be held:

    Carver Branch Library, Room 2
    720 Terrace Avenue

To achieve greater efficiency in program management and position North Baton Rouge better for other federal grant pursuits, Mayor Broome previously merged two MOVEBR projects on the bus route with the Bus Rapid Transit project.

This project includes creating a Bus Rapid Transit corridor to provide a high-quality rapid transit mode for buses, linking the north and south side of the city to downtown. BRT is designed to reduce travel times and provide a high level of passenger amenities including frequent service, specially designed stations, real-time schedule information displays at stations, level boarding at stations, improved station lighting, improved pedestrian and bicycle connections to stations, and bicycle amenities at stations.
