8/17/2022 - Calling all artists: Utility box art contest underway

The City of Spokane Valley, in partnership with Spokane Arts, is soliciting artwork from regional artists to wrap 12 utility/signal boxes in the city later this fall. This is the first year that the city is participating in the Utility Box Art Wrap program, which is coordinated by Spokane Arts and sponsored by STCU. Interested artists can access application materials on the Spokane Arts website. There is no application fee. Selected artists will be awarded $450 per box design and up to four designs can be submitted per artist. A joint panel will review submitted designs and make selections together. The city encourages artists to submit designs that celebrate the uniqueness of Spokane Valley's cultural, environmental and/or historical identity. The deadline to enter will be at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 and designs will be selected in September 2022. Artist payments will be issued in October 2022 upon delivery of the final design files. The installation timeline depends on the vendor selected to install the wraps.

ELIGIBILITY: Artists must reside in the Inland Northwest region, including Eastern and Central Washington and North Idaho. Submitted designs must be original works of the artist and in compliance with all existing copyright laws. For complete contest rules, application or questions, visit the Spokane Arts website or contact Shantell Jackson of Spokane Arts via email at [email protected].
