Cortez Masto Statement on the 48th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

January 21, 2022

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) released the following statement ahead of the 48th anniversary of the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade on January 22, 1973.

"Roe v. Wade has been settled precedent for nearly fifty years, and it provides a vital guarantee of reproductive rights for Americans," said Senator Cortez Masto. "On this anniversary of the decision, the stakes have never been higher. I'm committed to doing everything I can in the Senate to make sure that women in Nevada and across the country have access to the full range of reproductive health services, including abortion. I'll keep working to protect women's health, well-being, and reproductive freedom."

Senator Cortez Masto has been a tireless advocate for reproductive rights in the U.S. Senate. Earlier this year, she raised the alarm about the danger a Mississippi case at the Supreme Court, Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health, represents to Roe v. Wade. She also joined Congressional colleagues in filing a brief in the case urging the Supreme Court to uphold Roe. She has called on Congress to do more to protect women's health care by passing the Women's Health Protection Act, legislation she cosponsors to guarantee equal access to abortion everywhere. She was a vocal opponent of the Trump administration's efforts to limit access to family planning and reproductive health care and worked to block federal court nominees who would roll back women's health care and reproductive freedoms.
