The shower tray: what is an anti-slip surface and how does it work?

Gaining ground at the expense of the bathtub, nowadays the shower tray is one of the most popular solutions in private homes on account of its practicality and its availability in various sizes and shapes. But what are the aspects to be considered when choosing a shower tray?

Aesthetics and functionality

When choosing a shower tray, besides its appearance, there are several functional features to be taken into due account, such as:

- Height, to install an anti-slip flush fitting shower tray it is best to choose a 3 cm high base

- The dimensions of the floor area where it will be installed

- The position of the drain, if you are fitting a replacement tray, the position of the waste outlet must correspond to the position of the drain

- The anti-slip surface, the feature you need to make wet ceramic slip-resistant.

Normally, a ceramic shower tray has an anti-slip relief finish that, besides serving as a decorative element, prevents the risk of slipping on polished ceramic. The matt finish enhances the anti-slip effect.

Flaminia's has two proposals featuring this type of relief: Waterdrop where the relief brings to mind ripples in water, and Tatami whose surface provides a gentle foot massage.

Unsightly and not very hygienic, but certainly effective in terms of non-slip effect, are shower mats made of silicone, plastic or wood. On the market you can also find products that come from the plant with a surface specially treated to prevent slipping, but the treatment has to be repeated periodically.

How to clean an anti-slip shower

The cleaning procedure for a shower tray with an non slip relief surface follows the same rules that apply to ceramic WCs and washbasins: do not use abrasive products or alcohol-based or highly acid/highly alkaline detergents or disinfectants

It is important to comply with the application times indicated on the packaging. Ceramic relief surfaces require special attention to the areas where water may stagnate and cause scale formation.
