Bank of Hawaii’s Marissa Machida Receives ‘40 Under 40 in Wealth Management’ Award from American Bankers Association

Marissa Machida, vice president and relationship manager at Bank of Hawaii, was honored today as a recipient of the "40 Under 40 in Wealth Management" award, as announced by the American Bankers Association. This award recognizes wealth management and fiduciary professionals who are committed to the highest standards of achievement at work and in their communities.

The organization states that the winners were selected by a diverse steering committee of wealth and fiduciary professionals. The qualities and characteristics the committee evaluated as judging criteria included academic training (degrees and certifications earned, etc.), client relationship management, community service, dedication to the profession, inventiveness, leadership skills, "people" skills/mentoring ability, personal integrity, professional service (with professional societies, organizations, educational events, etc.), public speaking/presentation skills, sustained career progress, technical skills, and work/life balance.

This year's recipients will be recognized at the 2022 Wealth Management and Trust Conference in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 13-15, 2022.

Machida joined Bank of Hawaii in 2018, and has demonstrated excellence as a relationship manager in its Trust Services Division, where she advises and manages investments and trust accounts for individuals and families navigating the complexities of wealth accumulation, preservation and distribution. She is also a multi-year recipient of the Bank of Hawaii Chairman's Circle award, an annual program that recognizes top-performing employees at the bank.

Machida is a staunch supporter of the community and serves on several local boards. She is president of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) - Hawaii. This past summer, she spearheaded a two-part virtual panel, "A Conversation on Race in Hawaii," co-hosted by Bank of Hawaii, delving into the diversity of ethnicities and cultures within our island home and what we can do to build a brighter, more equitable future for all.

In addition, Machida serves on the boards of Read to Me International, Child and Family Services Guild, Hawaii State Bar Foundation, and Hawaii Women Legal Foundation. As a former Cherry Blossom Festival Queen, she remains a dedicated sponsor of the festival and provides personal development training and guidance to the contestants.

Prior to Bank of Hawaii, she worked as an attorney at various law firms and as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Honolulu. Machida also served as a law clerk for the Honorable Colleen K. Hirai and the Honorable Derrick H.M. Chan in Probate Court. Machida received her bachelor's degree in television production and business from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and earned her juris doctorate from California Western School of Law in San Diego.
