State Route 601-Penn Avenue near Hollsopple, Somerset County, is closed due to water damage

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has closed State Route 601 - Penn Avenue between Veterans Street and the intersection of State Route 403, north of Hollsopple, Somerset County, effective immediately and until further notice.

Traffic will be detoured using Veterans Street and State Route 403.
PennDOT crews in the area observed cracks on the surface of the road and damage to the shoulder caused by water escaping from an abandoned mine. PennDOT is currently working to notify the local school districts and their transportation companies, as well as borough and township officials of the closure and detour.
PennDOT will continue to monitor the situation and provide further details as they become available.
