Innovative Ways to Serve the Community

Woodstock, IL- Mach 24, 2020 Independence Health & Therapy continues to serve during this CoVid-19 pandemic in innovative ways. Due to the mandated 'stay-at-home' order, many in the community are isolated, unable to access critical services, and are experiencing challenges due to increased caregiving responsibilities. Independence Heath & Therapy is committed to helping these individuals through the following initiatives:
1) Caregiver Hotlines. Caregivers are under increased stress due to CoVid-19 circumstances and lack of respite services available. To help all caregivers in our county, Independence Health & Therapy created the following hotlines staffed by clinical experts.

Caregivers of Children(815-382-9251) especially those caring for high-need children and children with disabilities. This hotline is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from 3 pm to 6 pm.
Caregivers of Adults, (224-703-3504) especially those caring for individuals with dementia. This hotline is open on Wednesdays from 9 am to 4 pm.

2) Telehealth Access. Telehealth is an innovative way health care and behavioral health care professionals can still serve clients without coming to the office for treatment. However, many in the community do not have access to or are unable to operate necessary technology for telehealth appointments. In collaboration with Mental Health Board partner agencies, Independence Health & Therapy has created a Telehealth Clinic. Individuals already 815-333-8638.
3) Behavioral Health Services. More now than ever, individuals need to be taking care of their emotional and mental health. Independence Health & Therapy psychiatrist, counselors, and community support staff are continuing to serve their clients via telehealth and for those unable to access such technology, are being seen in-person as well. In addition, the following community services will be offered:
  • Independence Health & Therapy will be hosting weekly FACEBOOK live events between 11:30 and 12:00 pm on 3/27, 4/3 and 4/10 addressing mental health wellness strategies and answering live questions. Individuals can submit questions ahead of time via the Facebook site at
  • ISOLATED ADULTS HOTLINE (815-342-3477) for those who are isolated and need a clinically minded individual to talk with. Hotline is open Fridays between 9 am and 3 pm.
Addition to these expanded services, Independence Health & Therapy continues to serve their Adult Day and Memory Care and Physical and Speech therapy clients. Before the mandated 'stay-at-home' order was issued over the weekend, the State of Illinois mandated a 30-day closure of all Adult Day Programs, thus the Independence Health & Therapy Adult Day and Memory Care Program closed until April 16th. In an effort to still care for clients and caregivers Independence Health & Therapy nurses are conducting semi-weekly well visit telephone calls and medication reminder calls to clients and caregivers. Through these vital communications, they are able to monitor the well-being of clients, offer caregiver coaching, and help problem-solve challenges associated with the current situation. This includes linking clients and caregivers to other resources that may be available, like Senior Services and the Veteran's Administration. Independence Health & Therapy also implemented telemedicine options to maintain continuity of care and limit direct contact for physical and speech therapy and behavioral health clients. The government and insurance companies are relaxing the restrictions that prevented these treatment options in the past. For more information about any of these services, please call 815-338-3590 or utilize Facebook messenger to leave questions for the Independence Health & Therapy team. # #
