AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Donates $50,000 for Ongoing Hurricane Ida Relief

October 27, 2021 - Baton Rouge, La.

Many Louisiana communities are facing a long and difficult recovery from Hurricane Ida. In an effort to support this extraordinary need, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana donated $50,000 to United Way of Southeast Louisiana 's Ida Relief Fund.

The donation will provide ongoing assistance to hurricane victims, especially those impacted by food instability and loss of other critical supplies due to prolonged power outages and structural damage. United Way of Southeast Louisiana has been a local partner of AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana for many years, and will expedite the funds to local organizations providing daily boots on the ground support.

"Hurricane Ida was one of the most powerful storms to ever hit our state, and more than half of our 227,000 members live in affected parishes. In times like these, United Way of Southeast Louisiana does great work to support Louisianans and communities in need," said AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana Market President Kyle Viator. "We've worked with United Way chapters throughout the state to support our members and communities, and we're proud to do so again."

"Hurricane Ida created an urgent need to stabilize the health and well-being of countless Louisiana children and families in our region," said United Way of Southeast Louisiana President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Williamson. "United Way of Southeast Louisiana is thankful for AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana's support to expand immediate relief and help rebuild stronger, healthier communities for all."

In addition to the monetary donation, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana staff filled a truck with supplies in Houston, Texas and drove it to Louisiana to distribute to hurricane victims in the New Orleans area. Similar efforts to fulfill additional urgent needs with hands-on resources continue alongside United Way and other community-based organizations throughout impacted Louisiana communities.
