Germany: SPIE and grid operator Syna extend their partnership again

Riederich, 12 April 2021 - SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, and Syna, the electricity and gas grid operator in Rhineland-Palatinate, Hesse, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg and part of Süwag Energie AG, have officially renewed their partnership for another three years.

SPIE's contract for 14 of the 21 allotted areas includes the installation of medium- and low-voltage overhead lines, gas pipes, house connections and cables. SPIE is also responsible for maintaining street lighting installations and upgrading them with sustainable and energy-efficient LED technology and for setting up the charging infrastructure in Syna's grid area. The scope of services also includes 24/7 on-call duty, the full range of fault clearance services and warehouse management in Pleidelsheim and Sasbach. SPIE will be responsible for managing the grids and systems operated by Syna across their entire service lives - from consulting and planning through to engineering, installation, maintenance and operation. SPIE has up to 200 employees working for Syna.

'As a system service provider, we are the first port of call for all of Syna's operations - including scheduling, coordination, monitoring of pre-planning, performance of feasibility studies, formulation of alternative solutions, documentation and correction of plans,' says Maximilian Radlinger, Head of the South-West region in the CityNetworks & Grids operational division for SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa.

Long-standing partnership on equal terms

SPIE has been responsible for Syna's electricity and gas supply network ever since the early 2000s. After more than 15 years of collaboration, the multi-technical service provider is today responsible for two thirds of Syna's grid area and so possesses highly detailed knowledge of the majority of the area of supply. 'We are delighted to have a highly competent partner like SPIE by our side. Our partnership is based on dependability, responsibility and trust', says Jens Ommer, who is responsible for real estate and procurement at Süwag Energie AG. 'Extending this partnership is a real vote of confidence in the performance of our local teamand we are looking forward to our continued cooperation,' concludes Maximilian Radlinger.
