Walberg Grills Columbia President over Lack of Repercussions for Antisemitism

Washington, D.C. -- Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) pressed Columbia President Minouche Shafik about Professor Joseph Massad's glorification of the October 7 terrorist attack. Massad referred to the slaughter of nearly 1200 Jews as "awesome," "astonishing," "astounding," and "incredible." This follows an established pattern from Professor Massad. In 2005, an investigation by Columbia corroborated allegations that Massad had yelled at a Jewish student who questioned his views to "get out of my classroom."

In the exchange, President Shafik implied Massad was still teaching but had been removed as Chair of the School of Arts & Sciences' Academic Review Committee. However, in a later exchange with Rep. Stefanik, his removal was called into question as Columbia's own website still lists him as Chair.
