<_o3a_p>WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (Kan.) - member of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Data Security - today released the following statement after the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on data privacy:

"Americans need a clear, federal standard for data privacy, and the best way to accomplish that is by Congress passing legislation. I introduced the Consumer Data Privacy and Security Actto establish a fair, federal standard that protects personal data while not overburdening small businesses with unnecessary regulations. Congress needs to quickly act to pass legislation that protects consumers from future data breaches and puts them in control of their information."

Sen. Moran introduced the Consumer Data Privacy and Security Act to strengthen the laws that govern consumers' personal data and create clear standards and regulations for American businesses that collect, process and use consumers' personally identifiable data.
