On 30 November 2021, a workshop to review the progress of a Japanese funded project "Mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on Education through distance learning in Iraq" was held with the participation of Secretary General of National Commission to UNESCO, Director of Education TV Directorate of Ministry of Education and a Japanese Embassy Focal Point in Baghdad along with 16 Ministry of Education staff.

More than 1700 TV lessons for Primary Education and Accelerate Learning Programme have been produced and broadcasted on Education TV against the target of 3,106 lesson as of 25 November 2021, achieving more than 50%.

The participants actively presented what and the Ministry of Education and UNESCO have been responding to the COVID-19 situation and discussed the views to enhance distance education in Iraq.

The project aims to reach the most vulnerable children in Iraq who may not have physical access to schools and support six million students at primary education level whose learning was affected by COVID-19 and subsequent closure of schools by providing the learning materials on the TV for them to catch up with the current learning.
