Kazakhstan plans to join the EAEU’s Trademarks Agreement

February 22, 2021

Kazakhstan is actively discussing the draft law on accession to the Agreement on Trademarks of the Eurasian Economic Union1 (the 'Agreement').

The Agreement's ratification will allow right holders to register a uniform trademark in the territory of all EAEU states at once: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia. Registration will be carried out on a 'one-stop shop' basis through the national agency of any EAEU member state.

The terms of legal protection remain the same: 10 years with the right of unlimited extension.

It is expected that the simplified procedure of registration together with the possibility to obtain a uniform protection document valid in five countries at once will substantially reduce the costs for right holders and increase the investment attractiveness of the region.
