BYU-Idaho student soon to be published author

One BYU-Idaho student is looking to spread the light of Jesus Christ through his writing. Ty Miller will soon publish a book titled How We Saw Christ on Our Missions. He's written the book all while studying at BYU-Idaho.

For his upcoming book, Miller interviewed 113 missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints asking about their mission experiences and what advice they would give to young men and women who are leaving on their own missions.

"What I realized is that [other missionaries have] lived completely different lives [than me]" he said. "A completely different two years. I served my mission in Thailand… [and one of my] friends that I talked to served his mission in Provo, Utah. And [had] completely different stories. The message of the gospel of Jesus Christ is the same. And we can see Christ in many different ways."

Miller has his own special experience with his mission call and has sprinkled in many of his own stories into his book. Being born in Thailand and adopted at the age of 2 by a family in Kentucky, Miller was thrilled to be called back to his birthplace for his mission.

"It was a really special moment [when I got called] to serve in Thailand," Miller said. "My mom said, 'this is right,' and I just felt like 'I'm going home' and it [was] the coolest thing. The Lord is in the details absolutely."

Miller is also working on a second book that focuses on helping the youth of the Church. This book is titled These Little Lights.

"[The book is] me really sharing my story of how as a young adult, I have found Christ in working with the youth of the Church," Miller said. "It's also there to encourage [the youth] … to go learn your own lessons, go figure this out for yourself because I feel like that is what Christ would have us do when we come back from our missions."

How We Saw Christ on Our Missions will be published later this year and Miller hopes to have These Little Lights published by next year. They will be found in Deseret bookstores near you.
