Special Election for Active Firefighter Representative to the Board Has Commenced

The District of Columbia Retirement Board (Board) has commenced a Special Election for the Active Firefighter Trustee. This is a three-year term starting January 28, 2022 and ending January 27, 2025 and fills the remainder of Edward Smith's term who retiring from the Board December of 2021.

The election schedule is as follows:

Notice of Election and Request for Nominations, Including Statement of Candidacy Forms Mailed/Made Available

November 9, 2021

Statement of Candidacy Forms Due to Election Official by 5 pm ET

December 7, 2021

Drawing of Lots for Placement on Election Ballot (may be attended by Candidates ONLY)

January 14, 2022

Election Ballots Mailed/Made Available

January 28, 2022

Last Day to Submit Election Ballots to Election Official (by 5 pm ET)

March 1, 2022

Ballot Counting and Onsite Verification

March 2, 2022

Certification of Election Results by the Board

March 17, 2022

Election Results Published in the DC Register

April 15, 2022

Any Challenges to Election May be Filed With DCRB, in Writing,
by 5 pm ET

April 26, 2022

Election results are final

May 26, 2022

Trustee term begins

January 28, 2022

An Active Firefighter is defined in the DCRB Election Rules as follows:

An "active firefighter" who is a sworn member or officer of the District of Columbia Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department ("FEMS").
