• Business insolvencies in August 2022: +11.5% on August 2021
• Consumer insolvencies in August 2022: -6.9% on August 2021

WIESBADEN- Based on provisional data of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the number of requests for normal business insolvency in Germany increased by 18.4% in October 2022 compared with September 2022. Their number had fallen by 20.6% in September 2022 from August 2022. It should be noted that such procedures will be included in the statistics only after the first decision has been taken by an insolvency court. The insolvency request itself was filed approximately three months earlier (only in german) in many cases. Insolvency statistics include only business closures that occur in the course of insolvency proceedings. Business closures that are caused by other reasons or take place before businesses face acute financial difficulties are not included. This and other information should be taken into consideration when insolvency statistics are analysed.
