Did you know that April is Arts, Culture & Creativity month? And did you also know that Metro has one of the largest public art collections in the nation?

Metro Art's award-winning program features integrated artworks at stations and transit facilities, exhibitions, live performances, meet the artist events and more. Metro Art works with artists at all stages of their careers for the purpose of enriching the place we all call home: Los Angeles.

LIVE EVENT | Metro Art Presents: KJazz Tracks at Union Station - April 27, 2024

Three energetic performances will bring an unforgettable evening of live jazz music to the heart of downtown Los Angeles on Saturday, April 27, 2024 from 7:30-11pm in the Union Station Historic Ticket Concourse.

Grammy-nominated musician, emcee, singer, producer and drummer Kassa Overall will headline and performances by multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator Isaiah Collier, and vocalist and performer Darynn Dean. KJazz DJ Rhonda Hamilton will host and serve as emcee. RSVP here!

WEARABLE ART | Metro Art x Leimert Park Threads

Add some art to your wardrobe. Metro Art x Leimert Park Threadsis a limited-release fashion collaboration. Founded by artist Ashley Sky Walker, Leimert Park Threads is a fashion brand and movement inspired by the urban environment of South LA and the Black diaspora. The collection features dynamic artwork inspired by journeys along the K Line.

To commemorate 20 years of our Through the Eyes of Artistsposter series, which portrays diverse LA neighborhoods through the lens of local artists, we have posters from our archive displayed throughout the system! Find them on select buses and rail stations, as well as the exhibition, Journeys Continued…, installed in the Union Station Passageway Art Gallery.

Metro Art Bus

A vehicle for art, culture and transportation! The Metro Art Busis an immersive experience from street to seat with 16 large-scale portraits of Metro riders on the exterior of the bus and 41 art cards lining the bus's interior. Metro Art's Rider Portrait Series, We Are…Portraits of Metro Riders by Local Artists, is a bright and uplifting visual intervention that honors the personal stories of Metro riders.

LIGHTBOX EXHIBITIONS

Illuminate your commute. The Metro Art Lightbox Exhibition Programis a temporary series that engages Metro riders on their daily ride. Lightbox displays are comprised of sequentially arranged transparencies on internally illuminated boxes installed at the following Metro stations: 7th St/Metro Center, Hollywood/Highland, Universal/Studio City, Vermont/Beverly, Wilshire/Normandie, Historic Broadway and Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill.

UNION STATION EXHIBITIONS

Union Station stands on the site of Los Angeles' original Chinatown. This once vibrant community of families, businesses and associations with roots going back to the middle of the 19th century was a place where people lived and thrived.

Where You Stand: Chinatown 1880 to 1939invites participants into the center of the vibrant community through a multi-dimensional experience. Installed in the Union Station Waiting Room Gallery, the exhibition features historic photographs, oral history recordings, and an award-winning augmented reality component that allows viewers to see artifact materials superimposed within locations around Union Station.

Journeys Continued: LA Communities Through the Eyes of Artists

Explore a neighborhood near you! Journeys Continued… LA Communities Through the Eyes of Artistsfocuses on neighborhoods within Los Angeles County "through the eyes of artists." Local artists capture the look and feel of each community from a personal perspective, highlighting special, surprising and/or lesser-known facets of that place.

Parks, street food vendors, family bicycle rides and local landmarks along daily commutes are among the subjects for these distinctive works of art.
