CHAIRMAN JEFFRIES STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF THE INFLATION REDUCTION ACT

August 12, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC - Following the passage of the Senate Amendment to H.R. 5376, the Inflation Reduction Act, House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:

"Today, House Democrats delivered decisive action that will lower costs and make life better for everyday Americans. The Inflation Reduction Act will lower the skyrocketing price of live-saving prescription drugs, cut energy costs and make health care more affordable and accessible. This legislation represents a bold step toward tackling climate change and saving our planet, consistent with Democrats' promise to address the climate crisis with the fierce urgency of now.

By slashing a major cost driver for families, prescription drug prices, while making a $300 billion down payment on our nation's debt, Democrats are taking direct aim at inflation. The Inflation Reduction Act will further the encouraging economic progress America is making under President Biden's leadership, building on our return to pre-pandemic levels of employment and the continued drop in gas prices.

With today's historic vote, House Democrats are continuing to put people over politics by lowering costs, creating better-paying jobs and fighting for safer communities. House Republicans' refusal to join us in reigning in costs for everyday families speaks to their extreme agenda that caters to special interests and the wealthiest 1% of Americans."
