UoG appoints new Director of Estates and IT

University of Gloucestershire has further enhanced its leadership team, with Julia Lloyd appointed as the new Director of Estates and IT.

In her new role at University of Gloucestershire, Julia will be responsible for managing all aspects of the University estate and its related resources and business activities, as well as for the technical coherence of its digital applications and systems.

She will ensure the effective and strategic development of the University's physical and digital assets and help to meet its ambitions to make effective use of technology and further enhance its approach to teaching, learning and research.

Julia (pictured left) will be responsible for supporting the University's key commitment to connectedness in areas around digital, employer and community, and building the University's relationship among staff and students and linking it with the wider business community in Gloucestershire.

Julia currently works at Homes England, as Assistant Director of Transformation and Change, where she has responsibility for the Digital, Estates, and Operating Model Programmes as part of the Department for Levelling Up.

Prior to this role, Julia worked at the University of the West of England where she held a number of roles including Deputy Director for IT Services and Head of Project Delivery. Julia's sector experience also includes periods working for the University of Bristol and JISC in various business and technical change roles.

With the University's digital estate developing rapidly, Julia will collaborate with colleagues to create strategic change by integrating the University's digital and physical environments to support the student and staff experience.

Working with the Heads of Estates and IT, Julia will be responsible for creating and supporting an open environment that encourages new ideas and challenges traditional assumptions while maintaining a rigorous approach to security and reliability.

Speaking of her new position Julia said: "As someone who passionately shares the University's ambitions to grow its digital connectedness and capabilities - putting people right at the heart of everything it does - I'm thrilled to be joining at such a fresh and forward-looking period in its history.

"I'm excited about developing a more joined-up campus estate with fresh, modern facilities to create a synergy where our students and staff will benefit from an enhanced learning and teaching experience and working environment.

"Key capital projects such as the development of the city campus in Gloucester and our plans to rapidly expand our cyber and digital facilities in Cheltenham are major steps forward not only for our students and staff but for the local community and the business community, so it's a hugely exciting time be joining the team."

Dr Matthew Andrews, Chief Operating Officer and Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience, said of this new appointment "Julia impressed the appointing panel with her vision for Estates and IT services.

"Clearly grounded in student lives today, Julia set out a programme to nurture curious students, help staff deliver innovative learning experiences, and support our partners across different sectors.

"I am looking forward to working with Julia as we progress an ambitious programme designed to better integrate our digital and physical assets."

Julia joins the University Leadership Group, working with senior academic and professional services colleagues delivering the University strategy.
