Teen Faces Attempted Robbery and Vehicle Theft Charges After Monday Crime Spree September 15, 2021

A 14-year-old arrested early this morning is charged with three counts of attempted aggravated robbery and vehicle theft after he and two accomplices approached several persons Monday in three separate parking lots.

The first attempt occurred outside the Shell, 1001 Shelby Avenue, at 9:50 a.m. The victim was in her car when the suspects pointed a handgun at her, demanding money. She told them that she didn't have any. The suspects fled.

At 1:30 p.m., a man was returning to his vehicle parked at a strip mall, 5510 Old Hickory Boulevard, when he saw young men rummaging through his car. He confronted them and got into a physical fight. One of the juveniles fired a shot, striking the victim's car. They fled in an SUV.

About ten minutes later, the same suspects were observed pulling on car door handles in a parking lot at the Waterford Landing Apartments, 5901 Old Hickory Boulevard, where they also demanded a woman's purse. She ran from them. The suspects fled in two vehicles, including a blue Honda CRV that had been reported stolen Monday at 4 a.m. from Mapco, 712 Main Street. The owner stocks produce at the market.

Last night, a detective assigned to investigate recent robberies, spotted a stolen silver Chevrolet Camaro on Main Street in East Nashville. The driver pulled into the Walgreens parking lot, 700 Gallatin Avenue, where two of three occupants, including the 14-year-old and a 12-year-old, were taken into custody. The third occupant, a 15-year-old who had been driving the car, was arrested a short time later. Officers recovered a handgun from his person. At present, he is charged with vehicle theft and juvenile handgun possession.

The Camaro was stolen Monday morning from a construction site in the 1900 block of Holly Street where it had been left unlocked with the keys inside.
