Baseball swept on final day of spring trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Penn State Berks baseball team capped off its spring break trip with a 4-3 record after falling to Bridgewater College (15-4) and Christopher Newport University (17-5) on Thursday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of a two-run homer run by against Bridgewater. The Eagles scored 10 unanswered runs over the next seven innings, before Berks added two runs off of a double by in the bottom of the eighth to trail 10-4.

Welk finished the game 2-for-4 with one double, one homer, one run scored, and two RBI. Harhigh had the double and two RBI, while was 1-for-2 with a run scored. and each scored a run in the contest.

CNU controlled the game from the start game, by the time Berks scored five times in the top of the eighth it was too late for a comeback bid.

and both went 2-for-4 with a run scored, with Kreitz also adding a double. was 2-for-3, while Welk and Madeja both recorded a double.

Berks will host Penn State Harrisburg in a non-conference contest on Thursday, March 15 at 3:30 p.m.
