Roy, Self, and Braun fight for affordable insurance plans

WASHINGTON, DC- Representatives Chip Roy (TX-21) and Keith Self (TX-3) are leading a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution with Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) to nullify the final rule on Short-Term, Limited Duration Insurance (STLDI) that was finalized on April 3rd, 2024.

Since 2018, Americans have benefited from Trump-era policies that promoted access to affordable healthcare without having to go through Obamacare. This proposed rule would reduce the limited short-term plans from twelve to four months. The Foundation for Government Accountability stated that the short-term plan premiums are 59% less expensive than typical Obamacare plans.

Representative Roy said,"When it comes to health insurance options, the final decision makers should be the patients themselves - i.e., the American people. But instead of putting patients in charge, radical progressive Democrats in the Biden administration are trying to empower the crony cartel of big health insurance providers and unaccountable federal bureaucrats to make coverage even more expensive at a time when people are already hurting from historic inflation levels.

That's why I'm proud to work with Rep. Self and Sen. Braun on this important legislation. Americans deserve health care freedom; they deserve the lower costs, higher quality of care, and increased innovation that comes with it. That's what we're fighting for."

Senator Braun remarked,"The Biden Administration has introduced a rule that would limit or take away affordable health insurance from millions of Americans. I'm proud to be leading a resolution to overturn this rule in the Senate and protect STLDI plans because Americans should have the freedom to choose the health insurance plan that works best for them."

Representative Self said, "If this rule goes through, up to 500,000 Americans can lose their health insurance. These insurance plans are designed to provide Americans with temporary, limited, and affordable health coverage while they search for more permanent solutions. The Biden administration is crushing one of the last free markets contained within the Obamacare bureaucracy. Taxpayers don't want socialism. They want freedom."
