From Damariscotta, Brunswick + Yarmouth Maine all the way to Ukraine: Team Hancock is Giving Back to Make a Difference

Team Brunswick partnered with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust to donate lumber and screws to replace and build new bridges throughout their preserves. With a special focus on improving the Whiskeag Trail, the Land Trust is celebrating the trail's belated 10-year anniversary with increasing accessibility of sections of the trail for a greater range of ages and comfort levels with the outdoors. In the future, they hope to welcome more visitors by widening the trail corridor, adding strategically placed benches, and building and replacing existing bridges with a wider design, including ramps. The Whiskeag Trail is a 5-mile long community trail linking Bath YMCA to the Thorne Head Preserve to expand usage to the community.

Our Yarmouth team helped with a donation of building materials for Baxter Academy's robotics group. The Outliers competed with their robot in 4 events, including the New England District Championship. The students were able to apply real-world engineering principles to the design and build of their robot.

The Outliers Robotics Team, Baxter Academy

"The Outliers robotics team has always built wooden robots. Wood is strong, light, stiff, and easy to fabricate. This makes it perfect for many structural components on the robot and allows us to easily prototype designs and mechanisms. Hancock Lumber has been an amazing sponsor. Hancock Lumber's donation of the wood we use to build our robots and field elements has been so valuable to the team by providing our students the opportunity to gain skills in design and fabrication as we develop our robots."
- Jonathan Amory, Baxter Academy Engineering

Our Damariscotta location has long been a supporter of Habitat for Humanity. Not only did they recently sponsor the 7 Rivers' 29th annual Spring Walk to Build, but they also partnered with the organization to sell building materials at a discounted rate. Hancock Lumber is proud to be a long-standing supporter of Habitat for Humanity.

"This is our largest fundraiser to support building, repairing and modifying homes. With the cost of building supplies increasing so substantially it costs nearly $50,000 more to complete a home. We couldn't do this without generous support from individuals and our corporate sponsors."
- Adam Lacher, Habitat for Humanity's Executive Director

In late March, the Retail Association of Maine and the Maine Tourism Association launched From Maine to Ukraine, a statewide relief program that collected food, clothing, and household goods from Maine's retailers, hospitality businesses, and everyday Mainers. On May 23rd, with the assistance of Hancock Lumber, the associations shipped nearly 40,000 pounds of food, clothing, and household goods to New Jersey where the items will be delivered to Lviv, Ukraine for final distribution to the people of Ukraine. The goods will nearly fill three shipping containers. In addition to coordinating and providing the trucking service, Team Hancock also donated money to cover the cost of getting one of the shipping containers to Ukraine.
