City Council Approves Donation from Oncor for 110 Acres of Land for Future Development of Parkdale Lake

The Trinity Forest Spine Trail, which currently runs from the Great Trinity Forest to White Rock Lake, will run through the new property, linking it to other major trails and amenities in the area such as Samuell Grand Park and White Rock Lake.  City staff is currently working with potential donors to fund a master plan for the donated land. The Master Plan will rely on community input and engagement to develop the vision for this new park.

"I am excited to see the development of Parkdale Lake moving forward" said District 7 Council Member Adam Bazaldua. "This will be one of the largest urban Parks in the country. The acquisition of this land will advance investment and development in District 7 and will benefit all residents, especially in the surrounding area. I am thankful for our partnership with Oncor and I look forward to working with D7 residents and stakeholders to create our vision for this future park."

"Adding Parkdale Lake to the Dallas Park and Recreation system brings an undisturbed unique natural urban oasis for families to enjoy for years to come," said Park Board Vice President Daniel Wood.

"The infrastructure disparity between North and South Dallas has left neighborhoods - like Parkdale & Lawnview - without dedicated, safe pedestrian connections to surrounding neighborhoods or the rest of Dallas. This vote will allow us to complete The LOOP and connect Dallas to Dallas," said Philip Hiatt Haigh, Executive Director of The LOOP. "Parkdale Lake is less than three miles from White Rock Lake and because of this land donation, and public funding from the City of Dallas, Dallas County, U.S. Department of Transportation and funds privately raised by The LOOP, these neighborhoods can now be connected."

"The initiative by the City of Dallas and the Circuit Trail Conservancy (CTC) to unite Dallas' neighborhoods is a big win for our entire community," Oncor CEO Allen Nye said.
