On February 1st, the Del Rey Neighborhood Council voted to submit a number of comments to the California Department of Fish & Wildlife and the Army Corps of Engineers regarding their draft Environmental Impact Report for the proposed restoration of the Ballona Wetlands.
The proposal encompasses various options for restoring the 235 acres of the wetlands to a saltwater marsh area. The area runs from the Villa Marina apartments at the 90 Freeway and Culver Boulevard to the Marina breakwater along the Ballona Creek. The proposals include regarding the area and creating new walkways for the public.
The Neighborhood Council crafted the items by incorporating public comments from the November and February Land Use & Planning Committee meetings and the February special Board meeting.
The comments have been submitted and will be included in the final report. No construction is imminent as the report must be finalized, and funding and legal hurdles must be cleared first.
