The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services today awarded 20 states American Rescue Plan Act grants to develop and implement mobile crisis intervention services for people experiencing a substance use-related or mental health crisis: Alabama, California, Colorado, Delaware, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Missouri, Montana, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Utah, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia. Beginning next April under the ARPA, state Medicaid programs with a qualified mobile crisis intervention option are eligible for a temporarily enhanced matching rate.

On Friday, CMS awarded five state Medicaid agencies funding to implement demonstrations to increase their capacity to provide substance use disorder treatment and recovery services under the Substance Use Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery and Treatment for Patients and Communities Act: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Nevada, and West Virginia. States participating in the 36-month demonstration will receive enhanced federal reimbursement for increases in Medicaid expenditures for SUD treatment and recovery services.
