Congressman Cohen Announces $3 Million in Funding to Modernize the Millington-Memphis Airport

MEMPHIS - Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09), a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, today announced that Millington-Memphis Airport will receive a $2,976,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Contract Tower Competitive Grant Program to renovate the 80-year-old air traffic control tower, including a new roof, waterproofing, asbestos abatement, windows, HVAC and other interior and exterior finishes.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IJJA) provided funding for the FAA to distribute $20 million in grants to modernize air traffic control towers at many small town and municipal airports, including the Millington-Memphis Airport. Congressmen Cohen and Jim Cooper (TN-05) were the only members of the Tennessee Congressional delegation to vote for the IIJA, which President Biden signed into law in November 2021.

Congressman Cohen made the following statement:

"The Millington-Memphis Airport is an important regional airport and the investment we are making from the historic infrastructure law will go a long way towards making it safer and more competitive for the 21st century. The continuing benefits of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act cannot be overstated. This is a big win for Shelby County."
