This year, the British Columbia Law Enforcement Memorial takes place at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 27 at the B.C. Legislature Lawn that you can view online. The event will be modified due to COVID-19, with a small number of officers participating in ceremonial duties gathering at the Bastion monument to pay their respects.

In 1998, the Government of Canada proclaimed the last Sunday in September as Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day. On this day every year Canadians are given the opportunity to formally express appreciation for the dedication of law enforcement officers who make the ultimate, tragic sacrifice of giving their lives to keep communities safe.

The Bastion is a provincial monument on the BC Legislature grounds. Unveiled in 2004, the Bastion is dedicated to those officers who gave their lives in service to the citizens of B.C. There are 129 officers' names inscribed on the Bastion monument, including six members of VicPD.
