State Police arrest Greenport woman for hate crime

Greenport, New York - On January 25, 2020, the New York State Police from the Livingston barracks, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation Jount Terrorism Task Force arrested Tara Rios, age 47, of Greenport, for Harassment in the 1st degree as a hate crime, a class A misdemeanor.

Investigation by the State Police and the FBI JTTF found Rios engaged in a course of conduct that placed a local religious organization and its congregation in fear for their safety.

Rios was arraigned before the town of Livingston Court, and released on her own recognizance with an order of protection issued in favor of the victims.

Rios is next scheduled to appear before the town of Greenport Court on January 27, 2020, at 3:30 p.m.

This investigation remains ongoing.
