Working Within Confines: Women Home-based Workers in Pakistan

We are pleased to invite colleagues to participate in the Pakistan Development Policy Series 2021's third webinar of the series:Working Within Confines: Women Home-based Workers in Pakistan. The webinar will take place on Monday, March 8, 2021 at 5.00pm to 6.30pm and is being organized by the Pakistan Gender and Social Inclusion Platform.

The Pakistan Development Policy Series 2021 is a series of policy talks inviting discussion and debate on key reform areas critical to Pakistan's economic, social and development growth. The third webinar will engage local and international experts regarding on Pakistan's informal sector, particularly issues faced by women homebased workers. The discussion will center around exploring how critical support can be provided to these women workers, especially pertaining to policy reform and implementation of laws to underpin their significant contribution to the country's economic growth.

  • The webinar will begin with a panel debate, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Our panelists include Ms. Ume-Laila Azhar, Executive Director of Homenet Pakistan; Ms. Marty Chen, Senior Advisor for Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing and Organizing (WIEGO); Mr. Sergei Soares, Labor Economist, International Labour Organization; Ms. Maria Beatriz Orlando, Lead Social Specialist, World Bank; and Ms. Haseena Ali, Micro-business Owner and Homebased Worker, Karachi.

    The panel will be chaired by Mr. Najy Benhassine, World Bank Country Director for Pakistan, and moderated by Ms. Uzma Quresh, Senior Social Development Specialist, World Bank.
