Washington, D.C.- As Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry heads to the People's Republic of China (PRC) and Japan, House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul has released the following statement urging Kerry not to link US energy needs to 'genocidal regime.'

'Special Envoy Kerry told our committee earlier this year that the PRC supply chain for solar panels uses forced labor. And the Biden Administration's own supply chain report detailed how the CCP is using unfair trade practices to control critical supply chains, including in renewable energy. Actions to address climate concerns cannot benefit forced labor and cannot link our energy needs and supply chains to the PRC, nor should Special Envoy Kerry rely on the word of a genocidal regime with a history of ignoring international agreements. We must neither sacrifice our values nor forget the track record of failed commitments with the CCP.'
