Sacramento, CA - The Sacramento City Unified School District announced today that a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Hiram Johnson High School Sports Complex will be held on Thursday, April 18 at 2:00 p.m. The sports complex includes the new playing fields for Hiram Johnson's baseball and softball teams, and also the practice facility for the golf teams.

Media are invited to cover this special event where they will be welcomed by performances from Hiram Johnson band and drumline. SCUSD has invited Hiram Johnson's alumni and community to be in attendance.

"It is a great time to be at Hiram Johnson High School, these new facilities have rejuvenated our campus," said Garrett Kirkland, Principal, Hiram Johnson High School. "Our students can see firsthand the opportunities these facilities bring to our students and there are many people to thank. Assemblymember Kevin McCarty contributed funds and gave the project an impetus to move forward. Morton Golf led by Tom Morton and represented by Rob Fong were major contributors to making this happen. We are excited about this new era at Hiram Johnson High School."

The opening of the sports complex represents the last phase of improvements that began with the voter approval of Measure Q funds. This multi-phase project started in 2017 with phase one completed in the fall of 2018 that included the installation of a synthetic turf football field and all-weather track. In 2021, the project moved into its main phase which included new home (1,054 seats) and visitor (642 seats) bleachers, sport field lighting, an overhead entrance sign and home and visitor concession and restroom buildings for the stadium project which opened in March of 2023.
