Frederick Police Apprehend Shoplifting Suspects

On March 27, 2024, at approximately 6:05 p.m., officers from Frederick Police Department's Patrol Squad B responded to a reported theft in the unit block of E Patrick St, Frederick MD. The caller reported shoplifters moving between stores in downtown Frederick. The suspects, described as two females, were last seen heading northbound on N Market St.

The description provided by witnesses matched that of two females involved in an earlier theft case handled by officers in the same vicinity. In this prior incident, the individuals entered a store in the unit block of E Patrick St, Frederick MD. A neighboring business contacted the store, suspecting the individuals of theft. Upon reviewing surveillance footage, officers confirmed the suspects' involvement in the theft.

While patrolling the vicinity of N Market St and E Church St, officers observed the suspects driving northbound and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Mirela Sardaru from California, and the passenger, identified by her Italian passport as Melinsa Stefan, were detained for a theft investigation. Upon searching the vehicle, officers discovered evidence of stolen merchandise.

Both suspects were transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing. Upon arrival, Mirela Sardaru and Melinsa Stefan were charged with the following offenses:

1. CR 7-104 THEFT: $100 TO UNDER $1,500

2. CR 7-104(3) THEFT: LESS THAN $100

3. CR-7-104 CONSPIRACY THEFT: $100 TO UNDER $1,500

4. CR-7-104(3) CONSPIRACY THEFT: LESS THAN $100
