CBP Officers at Peace Bridge Discover Narcotics and Firearm

BUFFALO, N.Y. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Port of Entry seized narcotics, drug paraphernalia and a firearm concealed in a vehicle that was encountered at the Peace Bridge.

On Saturday, CBP officers encountered a passenger vehicle occupied by a 30-year-old male, 52-year-old male and 59-year-old male, all United States citizens. During the primary inspection, all three subjects were unable to produce compliant travel documents and were subsequently sent to a secondary inspection for verification. Additionally, the vehicle was also escorted to the secondary area for further examination.

During the secondary examination, the identities of each subject were eventually verified. However, during the physical examination of the vehicle, a firearm, small number of narcotics and several items with narcotic residue, to include drug paraphernalia and a drug-scale were discovered by CBP officers. The narcotic substance field-tested positive for the properties of methamphetamine.

"In this case, our officers determined further examination was warranted which led to the successful results in the recovery of a firearm, narcotics and drug paraphernalia," said Acting Port Director John Madsen. "I am proud of their efforts as they remain vigilant, enforcement focused and committed to ensuring the safety of our communities."

The subjects were taken into custody and subsequently processed by CBP officers. After processing, the narcotics, firearm, and subjects were turned over to the Buffalo Police Department. The subjects face felony charges of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon 2nd Degree, as well as a misdemeanor charge of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree.
