More than 750 primary school students from Andalusia and Castilla y León participate in 1st ‘Edufinet Kids’ Workshop

The aim is to teach primary school students basic aspects of economics and finance

A total of 753 primary school students from schools in Andalusia and Castilla y León have participated in the first edition of 'Edufinet Kids', a series of workshops organized by Unicaja's Edufinet Project with the aim of providing children with the tools that will enable them to face future challenges related to the economy and finance.

Thus, during the 1^st 'Edufinet Kids' workshops, some thirty sessions were held in schools in Malaga and Ronda; Andújar (Jaén); El Ejido (Almería); Valladolid and in the Valladolid municipalities of Arroyo de la Encomienda and La Cistérniga, as well as in Salamanca and in the town of Carbajosa de la Sagrada.

The participants in this financial education initiative, sponsored by Funcas Educa, were students in the third cycle of primary education (fifth and sixth grades).

The sessions have addressed issues such as budgeting, income and expenses; how to make financial decisions; savings and investment, and credit and loans. Specifically, the children were presented with problems that they had to solve using an abacus, given as a gift, and their questions and queries were answered.

Financial education for children and young people

With these workshops, primary school students join other groups of students with whom Edufinet works, such as young people in secondary education and baccalaureate, vocational training and university students. The project's website also features a portal for young people, called Edufinext, and a financial videogame.

The Edufinet Project, promoted by Unicaja Banco and Fundación Unicaja, has been in operation since the end of 2007, although it began to be developed in 2005. Some thirty entities, including institutions, business organizations and universities collaborate with the project.

Unicaja is, therefore, one of the pioneering entities in Spain to launch an initiative of this type and one of the most active agents in the fields of education and financial inclusion, in the exercise of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its commitment to society.
