Sunrise Skylights Zürisee Sessions: music to be played on the water

Being outdoors with good music and hanging out with your best friends - that's what makes for a perfect open-air event. But this year the Sunrise Skylights festival is going one better: With the Sunrise Skylights Zürisee Sessions, this summer for the first time there will be a floating stage on Lake Zurich. A concert experience like never before - despite or even because of COVID-19. 'Visitors' health and safety are of course our top priority. We will adhere to the required protective measures and do everything in our power to offer music fans a safe experience,' says André Krause, CEO of Sunrise UPC.

Last year, Sunrise already showed that it has a heart for musicians and festival fans by organizing the first drive-in, open-air event in Switzerland. Now that it is clear that most large open-air concerts cannot take place this year either, innovation is once again called for.

Swiss artists miss nothing more than touring and performing on stage. And there is nothing the audience misses more than concerts. But how can these go ahead in 2021, a year that is still being impacted by the pandemic? The idea is as simple as it is brilliant: the tour will take place on the water. From 19 to 29 August, eight national musical greats will rock the 9 by 6-meter stage on the 12 by 12-meter 'Floating Boat'of the Sunrise Skylights Zürisee Sessions.

Close collaboration with the communes

Over an eight-day period, the floating stage will dock in the harbors of seven lakeside communes: Küsnacht, Rüschlikon, Meilen, Wädenswil, Stäfa, Rapperswil-Jona and Lachen. The 'Floating Boat' is an absolute novelty on Lake Zurich. 'This makes the challenge all the greater for us event organizers, especially where the approval process is concerned,' says Fabian Villiger from the RedSpark event agency.'Our cooperation with the individual authorities is very positive, and it is evident just how much everyone is looking forward to the event.'

'To ensure that the residents in the respective regions won't have to listen to the music involuntarily, the concerts will be 'beamed' via headphones directly to the fans' ears on the shores of the lake,' says Thomas von Allmen from Rock-it Event.

National stars and local newcomers

For the line-up, Sunrise is deliberately focusing on national artists. 'We are delighted to support them in this current situation. Many of them have not been able to perform on stage for more than a year,' says André Krause, CEO of Sunrise UPC. The Aargauer R&B and soul singer Seven will be the first act to perform in Küsnacht. He will be followed by Anna Rossinelli, Luca Hänni, James Gruntz, Dodo, Adrian Stern, Dabu Fantastic, 77, Bombay Street. In addition, local musicians will rock Lake Zurich in every commune. 'Last year, young talents had virtually no opportunity to show off their skills; in this way, some of them now have this chance,' adds André Krause.Like other open-air events, the Sunrise Skylights Zürisee Sessions will take place no matter what the weather -strong winds or storms excepted of course. In case of cancellation - even if it were due to COVID-19 - everyone who bought a ticket will get their money back without any limitations. It goes without saying that the necessary protective measures will be complied with at every event.
