House Passes Amodei Mining Regulatory Clarity Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed Congressman Mark Amodei's (NV-02) Mining Regulatory Clarity Act of 2024 (H.R. 2925), which would set forth a process to allow mine operations to use, occupy, and conduct operations on public land regardless of whether a mineral deposit has been discovered on the land.

"Securing our domestic mineral supply chain is not only critical to our nation's economic success, but to our national security. Now more than ever, we must ensure we are doing all that we can to increase domestic mineral production and protect the ability to conduct responsible mining activities on federal lands. H.R. 2925 will reinstate much-needed clarity to allow vital mining projects to move forward."

House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Bruce Westerman added "Congressman Amodei has been a tireless champion for American mineral production during his time in Congress, and his Mining Regulatory Clarity Act of 2023 is an important piece of legislation for unlocking future domestic mining projects across the country. I'd like to thank him for his leadership on these issues, and know this bill will be essential in securing our mineral supply chains and defending our national security."

H.R. 2925 would address the Rosemont judicial decision, which could upend critical mining projects by prohibiting ancillary activities, like processing sites or the storage of waste, on lands without economically viable minerals. This legislation reaffirms long-held practice and precedent that some public land use under a mining claim inherently accompanies exploration and extraction activities for other ancillary, mining-support activities.
