Movement and the Natural World

This is an 8-week creative movement class for ages 55+. No experience is required.

Join us in exploring movement concepts through the lens of nature. We will take inspiration from the natural world as we learn and practice the principles of space, time, and energy. As we improve our physical capacities (including agility, strength, flexibility, and balance), we will also explore abstraction in movement. Together, we will compose short movement studies inspired by designs and motions found in nature. Our class will culminate in an informal showing of our work to share with family, friends, and community members.

This class is taught by Lisa Ford Moulton. Lisa Ford Moulton resides in Athens, OH. She received a BA in Modern Dance from Brigham Young University and a MFA in Choreography from the University of Utah. She was a member of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in Salt Lake City and worked with other professional dance companies before joining the faculty at Ohio University in 1995. Lisa was an Associate Professor of Dance until 2004. She continues her relationship with Ohio University as a guest artist and adjunct faculty member.

Lisa's choreography has been performed both nationally and internationally by various companies and at notable festivals. In 2004, Ms. Moulton was commissioned to create Turning Two Hundred, an evening-length work to commemorate Ohio University's 200th birthday. Among other honors, she has received two Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship Awards and the Ohioana Citation for Dance. In 2015, Lisa received the Honored Alumni Award from the Department of Dance at Brigham Young University and was the Dee R. Winterton Lecture Series speaker.

Lisa has been a Very Special Arts Ohio Teaching Artist at two multi-handicapped schools. She served as Choreographer/Associate Director at The Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, NY, from 2006-2021, where she worked with dancers of all levels and ages. She has been teaching Adult Modern Technique classes at Factory Street Studio in Athens, OH, since 2009.
