MONEY MONDAY: New York Candidates Report Hefty Hauls

It's Money Monday - also known as FEC Day - so here's a reminder that Congressman Pat Ryan and Red to Blue candidates Laura Gillen, Mondaire Jones, and Josh Riley boasted impressive fundraising hauls in the first quarter of 2024.

The cash hauls demonstrate Democratic candidates' growing success in connecting with voters across the Empire State. Ryan, Gillen, Jones, and Riley's continued success has put their extremist opponents - who continue enabling the far-right fringes of the Republican Party - under even more pressure.

DCCC Spokesperson Ellie Dougherty:
"New York Democrats and their grassroots coalition are building undeniable momentum in the fight to win critical congressional seats across New York. Voters from Long Island to the Hudson Valley and Central New York are sending a clear message that they've had enough of Republicans' extremism and dysfunction."

In case you missed it:

New York Playbook: RYAN RAISES

  • Freshman Democratic Rep. Pat Ryan raised more than $900,000 in the most recent fundraising quarter, his campaign will announce later today.

  • Ryan, a Hudson Valley lawmaker, has raised more than $4 million this election cycle. Ryan's district is the only one held by a freshman Democrat in New York being targeted by House Republicans this year.

  • But he is a prodigious fundraiser: Ryan was the top-raising Democrat in a swing district in 2023.

New York Playbook: GILLEN'S WAR CHEST

  • Long Island Democrat Laura Gillen will file her best fundraising figures of the cycle as she challenges GOP Rep. Anthony D'Esposito, Playbook is first to report.

  • Gillen raised more than $550,000 in the first three months of the year… The former Hempstead town supervisor is a recent addition to the DCCC's "Red to Blue" program.

  • "It's clear that New Yorkers want leaders in Washington who will prioritize results and solutions instead of fear mongering and finger pointing," Gillen said in a statement.

  • D'Esposito's campaign declined to comment or provide their first quarter numbers for contrast, but federal campaign records show the freshman Republican in the final quarter of 2023 had $290,000 in fundraising, spent $167,000 and had $1.2 million in cash on hand.

Politico: Mondaire Jones posts nearly $2M fundraising quarter in New York House comeback bid

  • Former Democratic Rep. Mondaire Jones raised a whopping $1.75 million in the first three months of 2024 for his New York House comeback bid against GOP Rep. Mike Lawler.

  • He ended March with more than $3 million in the bank, according to campaign fundraising totals provided first to POLITICO. Lawler's lower Hudson Valley district is a top target for House Democrats in their drive to reclaim the majority.

  • "While Mike Lawler was getting caught defunding law enforcement and blocking a bipartisan border security bill, our grassroots campaign has raised nearly $4 million thus far this cycle because of the incredible support from everyday people across the Lower Hudson Valley," Jones said in a statement. "And unlike my oil and gas lobbyist opponent, I don't take corporate PAC money."

  • Lawler was outraised by Jones during the third and fourth quarter of 2023. He has not released his total for the first quarter of 2024. This is Jones' highest fundraising quarter of this cycle.

  • New York will be the epicenter of the fight for the House majority. Several Republicans in districts Joe Biden carried in 2020 will face tough reelection battles, including Lawler.

City & State: Molinaro opponent touts $1.4 million first quarter fundraising haul

  • 19th Congressional District candidate Josh Riley says he's feeling pretty good about his fundraising totals for the first quarter of 2024. The numbers come seven months out from what promises to be a closely watched and very expensive rematch between Riley and Republican Rep. Marc Molinaro, and the race may have national implications.

  • Riley's campaign reports raising $1.37 million this quarter, bringing their fundraising total this cycle to $3.4 million, with $2.48 million cash on hand. His campaign also said that their average contribution was $73. Last quarter, Riley reported raising about $700,000.

  • "I spent a lot of time over the last couple of months just knocking on doors and talking to voters, and what we're seeing is a lot of grassroots momentum here," Riley said. "And I think it's because people see a real difference between Marc Molinaro and me."
