Shenandoah National Park is celebrating its 3rd annual Show Your Love for Shenandoah Volunteer Day, a parkwide volunteer event focused on improvements and projects to prepare for the spring and summer visitation season. Work projects planned include picnic grounds improvements, trail rehabilitation, exotic plant removal, and roadside ditch and overlook clean-up. Only Pinnacles Picnic Grounds (at mile 36.7) will be closed for this event; no other facilities or use areas in the park will be closed in conjunction with this project.

At Pinnacles, new picnic tables will be constructed along with the addition of accessible picnic grills. The work will require the closure of Pinnacles Picnic Grounds to all visitors on Friday, May 3rd at 3:00 p.m. until Saturday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. to facilitate safety and efficiency while staff and volunteers stage supplies and work crews, conduct the work, and complete site clean-up.

All other picnic grounds in the park will remain open including Dickey Ridge (mile 4.6), Elkwallow (mile 24.1), Big Meadows (mile 51.2), Lewis Mountain (mile 57.5), South River (mile 62.8), and Dundo (mile 83.7). Refer to our website for information about operating hours and seasons of other facilities and use areas throughout the park: Operating Dates & Hours - Shenandoah National Park (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov)
