HOMESTEAD, Fla. - Biscayne joins the nation in celebrating National Park Week with both in-person programs and with virtual opportunities for visitors on April 16-25.

Friday, April 16 - Night Skies at Biscayne: Join us at Convoy Point as we celebrate our night sky on the eve of National Park Week. The evening will include educational ranger programs, family activities, and a special Night Explorer Jr. Ranger event. We ask that you wear closed, comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray. Reservations are required. The park gate will open at 7:30 p.m. for registered attendees; the event will begin at 8:00 p.m. and last until 9:30 p.m. To register, please contact the Dante Fascell Visitor Center at (305) 230-1144. Masks are required and participants must practice social distancing.

Sunday, April 18 - Marine Debris Volunteer Cleanup: After registering at this link, meet us at 9 a.m. at the Dante Fascell Visitor Center. The cleanup will begin with a short safety briefing, then volunteers will caravan in their own vehicles to the chosen cleanup location (if it is too far to walk). Once on-location, volunteers will be asked to collect as much garbage from the area as possible. We ask that you wear closed, comfortable shoes, clothes that can get dirty, and bring/wear sunscreen and bug spray. We also suggest that you bring snacks and water in reusable water bottles. Biscayne will provide trash bags, pickers, hand sanitizer, and other cleanup supplies. Masks must be worn for the safety briefing, and during the cleanup if 6-foot distancing cannot be maintained. Group size is limited to eight participants due to Covid safety precautions, and spaces may fill quickly.

Sunday, April 18 - Fruition Virtual Artists' Reception: The newest exhibit in Biscayne National Park's Dante Fascell Visitor Center Gallery features 26 detailed botanical illustrations of the fruits, nuts and seeds of some of Florida's native plants. Fruition, created by the Tropical Botanic Artists, is on display daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through June 6. On Sunday, April 18 at 2 p.m., the park will host a virtual reception for the artists on the park's Facebook and YouTube pages. The event will feature a gallery walk-through, a few words from each of the artists along with a little about the featured plants, a demonstration of the painstaking techniques the artists use and a short talk by Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden Conservation Program Manager Jennifer Possley.

Saturday, April 24 - Junior Ranger Day: If you haven't already earned your badge, come visit us! We also have a 'No-So-Junior' Ranger program for adults.

Sunday April 25 - Bark Ranger Day: Bring your leashed pup to the park to earn their badge.

Saturday, April 17-Saturday, April 24: Each day of National Park Week has a different theme, so keep an eye on the park's Facebook page for fun posts or videos each day. Also, the Biscayne National Park Institute will be running guided programs daily. Check out their calendar and prices at this link.
