Burgess: Lasting Police reform is bipartisan

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), released the following statement after voting against Democrats' messaging bill, the Justice in Policing Act.

'Last year, Senator Tim Scott brought forward a bipartisan, bicameral piece of legislation to provide needed reforms to police departments across the nation. This reform bill put forward policies that would permanently remove bad actors from serving on any police force, provide the resources law enforcement needs to be adequately prepared to serve our communities, and attract and retain the highest caliber recruits,' said Burgess. 'Yet here we are again; Democrats ignored the desire by Republicans to establish long lasting reforms.'
