Meeks, McCaul, Bera, Chabot Issue Statement on Passage of Resolution Honoring Shinzo Abe

Washington, DC - Representatives Gregory W. Meeks and Michael McCaul, Chairman and Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and Ami Bera and Steve Chabot, Chairman and Ranking Member of the Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation Subcommittee, today issued the following statement regarding the introduction and passage through committee of H.Res 1259, a resolution condemning the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and honoring his contributions to the U.S.-Japan alliance:

"Prime Minister Abe was a pivotal figure for modern Japan and an ardent supporter of the U.S.-Japan alliance. His leadership elevated Japan's stature on the global stage and advanced peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and across the world. Prime Minister Abe's vision for Japan and the region will continue to have a tremendous impact long after his untimely and tragic passing. The United States joins his family and the people of Japan in mourning the loss of a great leader and friend."
