No, they're not the same. But, are they?
The real distinction boils down to this: do the hemp gummies and CBD gummies you're comparing actually contain the ingredients they say they do?
Because yes, they could literally be the same thing if the hemp gummies are really made with CBD oil or if the CBD gummies don't actually contain any CBD at all. For the moment, let's assume the product labels are telling the truth (we'll get back to that trust issue later) and break down the real differences between hemp gummies and CBD gummies.
With so many companies hopping on the 'CBD trend' bandwagon these days, it can be hard to differentiate between their products or even know what to look for. Are hemp seed oil and hemp oil the same thing? What separates them from products that claim to contain CBD oil?
They all come from the same plant, so shouldn't they all be relatively the same thing?
Hemp seed oil and hemp oil are two completely different things.
First of all, hemp seed oil is made from the seed of the Cannabis sativa plant, while hemp oil is derived from the stalks, leaves, and flowers of the plant. That distinction may not seem important, but it makes a world of difference.
This is because hemp seeds are rich in essential amino acids and vitamins, but they do not contain any cannabinoids. No cannabinoids mean no CBD.
So what, then, is hemp oil?
While hemp plant seeds don't contain any of the 100 known cannabinoids, the rest of the plant very much does. Which means: you guessed it, hemp oil very likely contains CBD, amongst a wide range of other ingredients.
When choosing a hemp or CBD product, make sure you take a close look at the label. While hemp seed oil may also be listed as Cannabis sativa seed oil, CBD oil can be listed as a variety of things, including:
Although both hemp seed oil and CBD oil are legal in the US, not all companies are as diligent in their manufacturing process as they should be or honest on their labels.
This mounting inconsistency in the CBD industry is exactly what led cbdMD to develop our Superior Broad Spectrum formula. We're setting the industry standard with our proprietary hemp extract formula that includes CBD, cannabinol (CBN), and cannabigerol (CBG) to create a consistently quantifiable formula.
Although hemp gummies made with hemp seed extracts don't have any CBD in them (at least they shouldn't), they still contain all the same properties and benefits as hemp seed oil. Hemp gummies can supplement your self-care regimen by supplying your body with a number of vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids, which your body doesn't produce on its own.
Hemp gummies, hemp extract gummies, and hemp oil gummies are all packed with nutritional antioxidants, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, gamma-linolenic acids, and vitamins B and D. This is why hemp seed oil has numerous possible benefits, including maintaining digestive health and providing various cardiovascular benefits. Omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids also play a role in maintaining brain function.
While the various components of hemp seed oil have a number of health benefits, the research into the supposed benefits of hemp seed oil is just beginning. So the real question is, do hemp gummies offer any added, separate bonuses outside of those vitamins and fatty acids? We don't know yet.
Although CBD gummies may all look alike on the surface, there are two key differences that set them apart from each other. The first is the quality of each company's product and the accuracy of their labels. The second difference is whether they are CBD infused gummies or CBD coated gummies.
With the FDA beginning to crack down on companies that contain or claim to have CBD in their products, the hope is that the CBD market will soon become more transparent and regulated. Thanks to FDA testing, it has recently come to light that a large number of products that supposedly contain CBD have misleading or inaccurate labels.
However, unlike many of the companies tested by the FDA, cbdMD has set the industry standard by clearly listing its ingredients and providing third-party testing results. We make sure you receive the full CBD benefits that we list on our products.
The easiest and cheapest way to create CBD gummies is by spraying a large batch of gummies with CBD oil or coating them in a mixture of sugar and CBD isolate. Although these gummies probably taste amazing (because they were pre-manufactured), their CBD content and benefits are much less reliable.
On the other hand, CBD infused gummies are combined with cannabinoids at the manufacturing stage, before the gummy itself is created. This means CBD infused gummies are thoroughly saturated with a precise and calculated amount of CBD. CBD infused gummies also test more accurately than CBD coated gummies.
At cbdMD, we make sure you're receiving the best we have to offer from our CBD gummies. That's why our CBD infused gummies deliver a superior CBD experience and feature a variety of flavors in every bottle.
Not only do our CBD gummies contain our Superior Broad Spectrum formula, but we also make them available in various CBD concentrations so that you can make sure you're getting what you need. Our tropical mix also comes in a sour variety or with Vitamin C packed in.
CBD gummies are also one of the easiest ways to take CBD and probably the yummiest. Thanks to our CBD infusion, you can be sure you're getting an accurate measure of CBD in every bite. Not to mention CBD gummies are easily transportable and one of the perfect delivery methods for those new to CBD. CBD infused gummies offer all the same benefits as CBD oil, from adding it to your stress relief routine to relaxation and promoting a general sense of calm throughout the day. They're just in a sweeter package.
So how can you trust what you're buying? By doing your research and asking questions. Every company will tell you their product is the best, make claims on their website, and include fancy wording on their product labels.
First and foremost, a quality hemp or CBD company will clearly provide third-party testing results so that you can be confident about what you're buying. After that, doing your own research is always a good idea.
As mentioned above, if a company doesn't clearly provide you with accessible and legible third-party testing results: go no further. If they're not willing to prove that the ingredients they're putting in their products are what they are, you probably don't want to put them in your body. Once you find a company or two with available testing records, you're good to move onto the next step: searching reviews.
There's no point in diving into mountains of reviews on hundreds of CBD companies out there from the get-go. But if you narrow it down to those with third-party testing, you'll have a much easier time sifting through the reviews.
You should also make sure you're looking at product reviews and reactions on non-affiliated websites and dig in deep, so you know what to expect. Are the reviews mostly positive? Do they include pictures or detailed information?
After reading through a few reviews, if you're getting a sketchy or uncomfortable feeling about a company or its products, it might be best to look elsewhere. Yes, there will always be people who are unhappy with a product and rate it poorly. However, chances are, if the majority of the reviews you've read are positive, you're good to go.
Last but certainly not least, ask them questions. If they produce quality CBD gummies or hemp gummies, they should be more than willing to answer any questions you may have. At cbdMD, we understand that you're putting your trust in us to provide you with quality products.
Have questions? We want to answer them for you.
