DALLAS - Vanessa Martinez, a bilingual teacher at Bishop Arts STEAM Academy, has been part of Dallas ISD for 21 years as a student and employee. After getting her Bachelor's and Master's degrees, Martinez decided to be a teacher. She returned to Dallas ISD, eventually arriving at her alma mater in the Bishop Arts District.

TAG students will receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award for their nonprofit
Isabelle and Katherine Adams are not your average high school students. They are co-founders of their nonprofit, Paper for Water, a project that makes origami Christmas ornaments and exchanges them for donations to raise money for water wells worldwide. The Adams sisters have raised more than $2.5 million, helping fund over 300 water projects in 20 countries over the past ten years. Their efforts have earned them the first teenagers ever to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award.

Community meetings to discuss redistricting
District trustees continue to host community meetings to explain the process and timeline for redistricting and gather feedback on current maps and plans. These are the upcoming meetings for this week:

Parent conferences begin today
Today, Dallas ISD elementary schools will be conducting their fall parent-teacher conferences. Middle schools will hold their parent-teacher meetings tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 19, and high schools on Thursday, Oct. 21.
