AEM Aids ISCA Efforts to Develop Crane Safety Guidance Documents

AEM participated in the most recent virtual meeting of the International Crane Stakeholders Assembly (ICSA), held earlier this month, to continue important efforts related to various crane safety guidance documents.

At the top of the February ICSA virtual meeting agenda was work on a trio of guidance documents, which were last discussed at the group's meeting held last March at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020 in Las Vegas.

  • Mobile Crane Ground Preparation for Wind Farm Construction
  • Working with Mobile Cranes on Floating Barges
  • Using Mobile Cranes for Pile Driving/Extraction Work

Discussions at the meeting focused on timelines for completion mid- to late-summer 2021.

ICSA has already completed three guidance documents:

  • Leaving Mobile Cranes Unattended
  • Lifting of Persons with Mobile Cranes
  • Lifting a Load with Several Mobile Cranes

These documents are currently available and can be found on member association websites.

Other global topics of concern for the global crane industry included regional standards and regulations, weighing mobile cranes with portable scales, and data loggers.

The next meeting of the group is slated for June 15, where work is expected to continue on guidance document development.

ICSA is comprised of seven associations who invest their time and expertise to develop guidance documents and communications promoting safe, uniform operations throughout the global crane industry. These associations are: Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM); The Crane Industry Council of Australia (CICA); Crane Rental Association of Canada (CRAC); The European Association of Abnormal Road Transport & Mobile Cranes (ESTA); European Federation of Material Handling (FEM); Japan Crane Association (JCA); and Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA).
