Federal Foreign Office on the reported tests of short-range ballistic missiles by North Korea

A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (18 January) on the reported tests of short-range ballistic missiles by North Korea on 14 and 17 January:

The German Government expressly condemns the most recent series of tests of short-range ballistic missiles by North Korea. Instead of accepting the repeated offers of dialogue put forward by the United States and South Korea, North Korea is hereby once again violating the obligations set out by the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and irresponsibly jeopardising international and regional stability and security.

North Korea is bound to the complete, verifiable and irreversible ending of its programmes to develop weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles. The German Government urges North Korea to refrain from further tests, to implement the Security Council decisions in full, as well as to enter into serious negotiations on the dismantling of its nuclear and missile programmes.
