House Republican Leaders Hoping to Protect GOP’s Favorite Extremist Podcast Host, Steve Bannon, From Criminal Contempt

McCarthy urging members to vote "NO" on the charges after plenty of his GOP candidates joined Bannon's War Room this year

Last night, the House Select Committee investigating the deadly right-wing Capitol attack on January 6th voted to advance criminal contempt proceedings for former Trump advisor and major GOP strategist Steve Bannon, moving him one step closer to being held in contempt of Congress.

According to the committee's contempt report, Bannon had met with members of Congress the day before the insurrection, had "specific knowledge about the events planned for January 6th before they occurred," and even claimed the day before that "all hell is going to break loose tomorrow."

Now, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Minority Whip Steve Scalise - who have opposed the committee at every turn and threatened telecom companies who comply with the committee - are urging members to vote "NO" on holding Bannon in contempt. Is it because they're also afraid of the truth coming out?

"Republicans have shamefully tried to stand in the way of uncovering the truth about January 6th every step of the way, and have instead chosen to protect violent insurrectionists and the likes of Steve Bannon and Donald Trump over our democracy," said DCCC Spokesperson Nebeyatt Betre. "Their actions speak volumes about how little they care for our democracy, and this vote will force them to make clear to voters that they will always choose politics over country."
