Help Beccles become an autism-friendly town

Posted by on 16 November 2022 | Comments

Beccles residents are invited to attend an event to share their views about how to make the town more autism friendly.

East Suffolk Council's Communities Team has been working alongside Beccles Community Hub and the local Morrisons Community Champion to look at how to make Beccles a friendlier place for people on the autism spectrum, and their families.

As part of wider engagement work, a Coffee and Chat event is being held at Beccles Library on Saturday 19 November for local people to put forward their views about what improvements they would like to see. Free refreshments will be provided, and colouring and jigsaw puzzles will be available for children to enjoy.

The event will be a drop-in from 11am to 1pm and event organisers will be on hand for an informal chat.

Cllr Caroline Topping, Chair of the Community Hub and East Suffolk ward councillor for Beccles, Worlingham, Barnby and North Cove said: "We want to encourage residents and businesses to learn more about autism so that we can support autistic people in our community. This could range from simply learning more about what autism is, through to creating quieter spaces or quieter shopping hours to support autistic people in the town in their daily lives."
