State Secretary Lucić participates in high-level meeting on Yemen

State Secretary for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Zdenko Lucić on Wednesday participated in a high-level online meeting on the humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The meeting, held on the margins of the UN General Assembly, was organized by the EU, Sweden and Switzerland to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and mobilize additional resources for a coordinated international response as the most efficient way to assist and protect the Yemeni people.

Lucić underlined Croatia's commitment to the UN efforts in seeking a sustainable political solution to the long-standing armed conflict in Yemen, emphasizing the need to protect the most vulnerable groups such as women and children. He recalled that at the Donor Conference for Yemen in March, Croatia had allocated USD 100,000 for the World Food Programme to combat hunger and malnutrition in mothers and children.

At the meeting, attended by representatives of 20-odd countries, UN agencies and international organizations, the EU announced, among other things, EUR 119 million worth of additional aid to alleviate the consequences of humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
